Yesterday, the Statesman published a commentary by Citizens Advisory Task Force member Fritz Steiner. He remarks, “The Imagine Austin draft contains a bold idea about how to address our changing urban region. This concept needs to be embraced and pursued. The challenge is clear; we live in a growing city and region.”

The Imagine Austin Citizens Advisory Task Force has extended the Imagine Austin priorities survey to Dec. 15 for added community input.

“We are calling this survey ‘Your Priorities. Your Voice,’” said Judge Margaret Cooper, who chairs the Imagine Austin Citizens Advisory Task Force.  “We want to give all of Austin an opportunity to participate and give us feedback as we prepare the plan that will guide our great city for many years to come.”

The Imagine Austin Prioritization Tool summarizes the big-picture priorities laid out in the draft comprehensive plan for Austin’s future.  Residents can designate which of these they consider top investment priorities.

“We encourage citizens to learn about Imagine Austin in a way they are comfortable with,” Cooper said.  “Residents can read the full draft plan if they wish, and we hope they will. However, if they don’t have time to read every page, we encourage taking the survey because it’s a very quick way to view the plan’s priorities, and the survey is interactive, so everyone can go deeper to read more details.”

In addition to ranking programs, Austinites can suggest different priorities and join the discussion on SpeakUp Austin.

The City of Austin will host an “Interact with Imagine Austin” open house as an opportunity for the community to ask questions after reviewing the draft comprehensive plan during the last month.
The open house will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Seton Administrative Offices, 1345 Philomena St.

The “Interact with Imagine Austin” open house will include opportunities to:

  • Review and discuss the draft plan
  • Compare existing plans, including neighborhood plans and other city plans, with Imagine Austin
  • Review data used in the planning process and suggest other information to use in revising the plan
  • Rank priority programs using the Imagine Austin Prioritization Tool

Hundreds of Austinites attended the Imagine Austin Release Party on Oct. 1 where they had a chance to listen to live music, flip through the draft plan and rank eight priority programs for Austin’s future.

The draft plan is a culmination of two years of community input and thousands of ideas from Austinites on how the city should grow and develop into the future.
The deadline to participate in the Imagine Austin Prioritization Tool at www.imagineaustin.net is Nov. 14.

Imagine Austin Online Priority Tool will close Nov. 14

Hundreds of Austinites have shared how they rank eight programs for Austin’s future. More input is wanted and the City of Austin has extended participation through Nov. 14.

Residents can read the City’s draft Comprehensive Plan, a 30-year plan for Austin’s future, and also participate in an online Imagine Austin prioritization activity.

“Using the online tool is a fun and interactive way to learn about our long-term plan for Austin’s future and to weigh in on its priorities before the plan is adopted next year,” said Marc Ott, City Manager. “The Imagine Austin Prioritization Tool is not only informative for residents, it also informs City leaders about what is most important in the minds of our residents.”

In addition to ranking priority programs, residents have submitted their own ideas, such as providing incentives for companies that reduce their carbon footprint, making sure everyone has a place to call home, and using modern technologies to deliver government services faster, better and cheaper. All submitted ideas and project rankings will be used in finalizing the plan.
